Hertha BSC: Lars Windhorst invests another 150 million euros in the club

Hertha BSC is getting the next financial package of 150 million euros from investor Lars Windhorst. As the Berlin Bundesliga soccer team announced, Windhorst’s holding company Tennor will only pay 50 million euros in July and will provide a further 100 million euros in equity in October. In return, Tennor now receives a total of 66.6 percent of Hertha BSC GmbH & Co. KgaA, it said. However, the mother club Hertha BSC eV continues to provide the management.

Hertha President Werner Gegenbauer spoke of another outstanding step. “Hertha has never been better off economically in its history.” Windhorst said: “This underlines our long-term commitment, especially in difficult Corona times.”

Lehmann confirmed as supervisory board

The supervisory board and the executive committee of the association as well as the supervisory board and advisory board of the KGaA unanimously approved. Windhorst had been promising another payment for months. Through Tennor in 2019, he initially acquired a total of 49.9 percent of Hertha BSC GmbH & Co.KGaA for 224 million euros. The increased participation will not change anything at his seats on the Supervisory Board; four out of nine positions that he may fill remain.

The two newly proposed candidates Jens Lehmann, former national goalkeeper, and commercial lawyer Thomas Werlen were officially appointed to the supervisory board. Lehmann is the successor to ex-national coach Jürgen Klinsmann. In addition, consultant Marc Kosicke, whose clients include trainers Jürgen Klopp and Julian Nagelsmann, will work for Tennor in an advisory capacity.

Thanks to Windhorst’s investments, Hertha recently had an unprecedented transfer offensive in the club’s history. Last winter alone, the club invested almost 80 million euros in new players, including Matheus Cunha (18 million euros) and Krzystof Piatek (24 million euros). Lucas Tousart from Olympique Lyon (25 million euros) will strengthen the club for the new season. The association also wants to be active in the coming transfer period.
