Caution road work!
Berlin’s new BER airport has been in operation for almost a year. But now there is another major construction site in the capital – the Hertha squad for the new season.
Coach Pal Dardai (45) traveled with 28 professionals to the training camp in Leogang (Austria). However, the current squad is pumped up with a lot of young talent. Dardai has to lay the tactical foundation with a rump troop.
Team architect Fredi Bobic (49) is struggling with a tough transfer market. With Suat Serdar (24) and Prince Boateng (34) only two new ones were added.
BILD checks which positions builder Bobic still needs to lend a hand:
► Tor: Alexander Schwolow (29) is set as number 1. Nils Körber (24) is planned as a substitute, as veteran Rune Jarstein (36) will still be missing after his heart muscle inflammation. Should Körber push for more playing time, a replacement would be needed.
► Defense: Hertha is well represented with the three strong central defenders Marton Dardai (19), Dedryck Boyata (30) and Niklas Stark (26). Jordan Torunarigha (23) returns from Olympia.
► Midfield: The Berlin lucky bag! Boateng, Santiago Ascacibar (24) and Serdar currently form the center – a completely new constellation. It is possible that there will be reinforcements here.
► Attack: Here is the biggest gap: with Javairo Dilrosun (23) and Davie Selke (26) there is only one healthy winger and center forward of Bundesliga format. Dodi Lukebakio (23) could still leave the club. Coach Dardai: “We need more quality on the offensive.”
There is time until August 31 to fix the construction sites. Then the transfer window closes.
