Viral on TikTok a man complained about the appearance of bumps like pimples on the face. It was Setya, a man from Jakarta who complained of a lump on his forehead to his eyelids for about a week.
The owner of the @cimolkentang account stated that the contents of this pimple-like lump contained elastic water. After consulting a doctor, sure enough, apparently the ‘bumps’ that appear are not ordinary acne, but a herpes zoster virus infection.
“Initially it was red like a pimple, the next day it appeared small and got bigger. Panic because it appeared on the eyelids,” he told AFP on Wednesday (29/6/2022).
“I searched, I already suspected it was herpes because the characteristics are similar. When I went to the doctor, I was diagnosed with herpes zoster,” he continued.
Setya said that if the lump is touched, a burning sensation will appear, such as burns or blisters. Fortunately, the condition has improved and the recovery time is no more than a month.
What is Herpes Zoster?
Herpes zoster, also known as shingles, is a disease that presents with a rash and water-filled nodules with pain on one side of the body. The trigger is due to infection with the varicella zoster virus, which is also the ‘trigger’ of chickenpox.
Shingles is generally not lethal, but it can be very annoying. This disease is susceptible to those aged 50 years and over, those who are under stress to have a weak immune system.
How to Treat Herpes Zoster
Quoted from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some antiviral drugs such as; acyclovir, valacyclovir, and famciclovir can speed healing and reduce disease severity.
These medications are most effective if you start taking them as soon as possible after the rash appears. To relieve itching, you can do wet compresses, use calamine lotion, and take a warm bath with mashed oatmeal.
