The Belgian police have rolled up a large network of heroin and cocaine dealers in a direct supply line from Maastricht to Ostend. That writes The Latest News. According to the public prosecutor’s office, 22 suspects have been arrested during searches in Ostend and Maastricht. Eleven kilos of heroin and 61,300 euros were seized.
Two organizers and a courier were arrested in Maastricht. Belgian justice asks the Netherlands to surrender the three suspects. The action has involved collaboration with the Dutch police.
Minors
The investigation began in mid-2019, after information came to the police about a drug line of mainly heroin, but also cocaine from Maastricht to Ostend. According to the Bruges public prosecutor’s office, further investigation into the organization showed that couriers from Maastricht regularly came to Ostend to deliver drugs. Eight couriers, including a few minors, were identified during the investigation.
More than 200 customers
The drug network supplied more than 200 customers in Ostend and the surrounding area. In addition to the three arrests in Maastricht in which 11 kilos of heroin and 61,300 euros were seized, there were ten house searches with local dealers and accomplices in mainly Ostend and surroundings. The public prosecutor’s office says that the organization’s most recent local pawn was also picked up with 204 grams of prepackaged heroin.
During the searches, a total of nineteen suspects were arrested, eleven of whom were brought before the investigating judge. Ten of them were arrested, one suspect is at large. The arrested suspects must come to the chamber soon.
Two fugitives were also found during the searches, who had not returned after leave. They have been returned to prison in Bruges.
