Cubans and Panamanians today reaffirmed the heroic resistance of the people of the largest of the Antilles against the United States blockade imposed more than six decades ago.
At the close of the thirteenth edition of a caravan through the main arteries of the capital of the Isthmus, organized by the Asociación Martiana de Cubanos Residentes (Amcrp) in the isthmus, the participants in the concentration in the Belisario Porras park, also demanded that Washington exclude the island from the list of sponsors of terrorism.
In his remarks, the ambassador of the Caribbean nation, Victor Cairo, condemned that by including Cuba in this unilateral and discriminatory list, the pressures and obstacles to the well-being of families, determined not to give up their main social achievements, thanks to the triumphant Revolution in 1959, are increasing.
Cuba is not alone, the diplomat stressed, highlighting and thanking the support his country receives in this just cause from solidarity, trade union and popular organizations in Panama, whose representatives accompanied this demonstration.
In the midst of a new wave of attacks on democracy and progressive nations in the region, he said, this act is a tribute to a people who have creatively resisted for more than six decades the cruelest and most inhumane blockade that has ever existed on the planet.
In turn, the young lawyer Lilian Ruiz, on behalf of the National Coordinator of Solidarity, condemned the fact that the Government of Joe Biden and previous administrations violate the human rights of Cubans in the name of the so-called prevailing freedom of genocide.
Ruiz called for what the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (2926-2016), called the battle of ideas to confront interventionist policies and even threats of military invasions, in the face of the complicit stance of lackey governments such as the current one in Panama.
Meanwhile, the president of the Amcrp, Humberto Pérez, asked the Executive headed by José Raúl Mulino to denounce the atrocious blockade that is causing Cubans to suffer need and scarcity, and who, despite these attacks that besiege them, resist and fight to move forward.
He also sent a message to the White House and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and her campaign team, who in the past expressed their belief in the need to lift the embargo, calling it a failed policy.
Pérez said that this initiative takes place in the midst of campaigns by groups opposed to the revolutionary work that from Miami foment hatred and subversion against the peace and stability of Cuban families.
Since 1992, the United Nations General Assembly has passed resolutions condemning the hostile policy that began with this type of voting, which was interrupted only in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
