“His wife called him, he did not answer”
It is 10:30 a.m. this Thursday when Emma Clavié, 27, an adapted physical activity teacher, arrives on the private beach of Marina beach in Grau-du-Roi. Space is deserted, the sea rather calm. Tourists are scarce. Only two couples bathe in front of her. She then sees a man plunge his head into the water, in a strange way. “His wife was nearby, she called him, spoke to him but he did not answersays the young woman. Seconds later she realized her husband was unconscious and screamed for help.”
A team rescue
The Gardoise did not hesitate for a second and hastened to join the septuagenarian fifty meters further. “I passed the national water safety and rescue certificate (BNSSA) two years ago. Without success since I had not had itshe points out. But luckily, I remembered the first aid techniques. I acted without thinking, it came by itself.” Once on the beach, two waiters from the hut and a young man joined him to help him perform first aid before help arrived ten minutes later. “Fortunately, one of the two waiters was a soldier and knew first aid gestures. Above all, it’s teamwork”she concludes.
This Friday, when Emma Clavié picks up our call, she does not understand why her act deserves to be highlighted. “Everyone was able to perform these gestures, I did nothing extraordinary,” she said, still confused, with great humility. However, the gesture of this young woman from Saint-Marcel-de-Careiret was welcomed by many people on the spot. The family of Japanese vacationers have found their heroine.
