“You also have to look at the beautiful things in life outside of football from a different perspective. Of course, football is the most beautiful thing there is. Getting up every day to play football. I have never seen it as a job, but as a hobby for which you get paid.”
Playing soccer with an empty bottle
Today, Koot is paid to deliver groceries, a job he started during rehab. “I like it very much. You are among the people and you don’t have a boss on your roof.” But sometimes it is a bit lonely, he admits, and he misses football.
“It’s not a black hole, but it’s grey. I sometimes watch football during breaks during work. You miss it, but you keep an eye on it. And if you get an empty bottle back from a customer, you kick it anyway back on the bus, then you’re playing football again.”
