In 2009, Typhoon Morakot devastated Nantai. Jiamu Village, located in the mountains of Pingtung, suddenly became an isolated island on land. Lai Mengchuan, who once served in the High Altitude Special Service Platoon (Liangshan Special Service Team) of the Army Aviation Special Department, joined the Pingtung County Fire Department Special Search Team after retiring.
