Holding off a card of 71 (-1) in a moving day full of twists and turns, Cameron Young (photo) remains in the lead of the Hero Dubai Desert Classic. At -14 (202), the American, however, only has a two-shot lead over a magnificent Rory McIlroy, unleashed with his 63 (-9) of the day, and over the Pole Adrian Meronk. In the very tough this Saturday on the Majlis Course, the French are left behind on the leaderboard…

This Moving Day kept all its promises this Saturday in Dubai on theEmirates Golf Club. Solid leader at mid-term with a total score of -13, Cameron Young indeed experienced a much more uncomfortable day than the day before when he had, as we remember, chopped the par 72 of the Majlis Course with a sumptuous 64 (-8) without error.

There, the American, certainly titillated by the fantastic day of Rory McIlroy (we will come back to this), was not as imperial as the day before. Certainly, eighteen holes from the end of this first Rolex Series of the season, he is two strokes ahead of the current world No. 2 and the Pole Adrian Meronkvoted best player of the DP World Tour in 2023. But would this very light mattress be enough to counter the competition which promises to be ruthless?

Despite a birdie slammed on hole n°1, the world n°25 clearly suffered on a course made much more difficult to negotiate with complicated flag positions and greens firmer from day to day. The proof with this passage 7 and 8 where the New Yorker concedes three strokes, first with a double bogey on the par 3 of the 7 (ball in the water on the put in) then bogey on the par 4 of the 8 with a bad three putt.

Fortunately, on the return part, the “simplest” of this Dubai route, things have improved somewhat for the one who is still aiming for success on the PGA Tour (and incidentally on the European Tour). Three birdies at holes 11, 13 and 17 and he is still in control of the tournament with a score of -14 (202).
I think overall it was a great battle. Two moves ahead is better than nothing at all!
Cameron Young
« It didn’t go as I would have liked, especially on the first nine holes.he admits when the recording comes out. However, I feel like I played really well today. But I didn’t putt as well as the previous days. And then with this wind that has picked up, it’s never easy. I think overall it was a great battle. Two moves ahead is better than nothing at all! »
Ten shots behind at the start of the 3rd round
Cameron Young will therefore share his last lap with Rory McIlroy from 12:39 p.m. local (9:39 a.m. in France). The Northern Irishman, in alternating current mode during the first two holes, suddenly let loose this Saturday, putting on a show of great beauty, making fantastic shots (like this eagle on the par 5 of the 18th) and now offering himself with his anthological 63 (-9) the possibility of retaining his title and registering his name on the list for the fourth time. And to think that he was still ten shots behind at the start of this 3rd round this morning…
« I always thought the key to this course was the outward nine holes.analyzes the British golfer, as unpredictable as ever. These are the most difficult nine holes. And if you can play well on these nine holes, you give yourself momentum on the back nine and it can work out… »
« Win a fourth timehe asks himself? That would be amazing! I have experienced so much joy, so much success in Dubai, whether here or at Jumeirah Golf Estates (host of the Race final). It’s a place that suits me. I love coming back here. So it would be incredible if I could achieve another victory! »

Everything should therefore be played out between the American, Meronk and him, even if the Chinese Haotong Li and the Dane Rasmus Højgaard still have a small chance. This duo is in fourth place at -9. The Chilean Joaquin Niemann, only sixth, is at -8. Crippling? Must see!
One thing is certain, the French clan owes us a revenge this Sunday. This Moving Day was particularly slow for the six who made the cut on Friday evening. Romain Langasque et Antoine Rozner are thus satisfied with par (72) but occupy respectively 30th (-3) and 51st place (par).
Brilliant Friday with an astonishing 66 (-6), Mike Lorenzo-Vera sank steeply with his 77 (+5) weighted with a double, four bogeys for a single birdie. The Basque loses 36 places: 43rd to -1. Behind, far behind, we find Julien Guerrier61st at +1 after a heavy 76 (+4), then Ugo Coussaud et Jeong Weon Ko, 67th (+2) and 73rd (+4). Tomorrow is another day !
