Hernando Cevallos: “Minister Carrasco had two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine” nndc | PERU

The Minister of Health, Hernando Cevallos, reported that the Minister of Defense, Juan Carrasco Millones, who is hospitalized in an intensive care unit at the Edgardo Rebagliati hospital for COVID-19, had two doses of the vaccine against the disease, but that he received his second application only on December 31.

In dialogue with RPP, Cevallos said that Carrasco had explained to the Council of Ministers that he had a health condition that prevented him from being vaccinated in a timely manner according to his age range and that, for this reason, he had not yet received a third inoculation.

“Minister Carrasco presented respiratory distress on Sunday and was admitted to a hospital, the family reported it yesterday and the ministry made it public today. He has 40% lung involvement, has a high-flow cannula, and is being evaluated for mechanical ventilation. The minister had two doses, one on December 10 and another on December 31”, he stated.

“Although the vaccine generates defenses after the second or third week, it was just the time that the minister had at the time of becoming infected. [el 18 de enero]. We are seeing if there are any risk factors, the minister told us that he had a health condition that prevented him from being vaccinated at the time he was supposed to be, as he was a 45-year-old man”, he added.

Regarding his own COVID-19 picture, the head of the Health sector stated that he has already recovered from his symptoms of the disease and that he carries out his activities remotely. It should be noted that both Cevallos and Carrasco tested positive for the disease on January 18.

In total, five cases of COVID-19 have been registered in the Ministerial Cabinet. Days ago it was reported that the head of Labor, Betssy Chávez; of Economy, Pedro Francke; and recently from Foreign Relations, Óscar Maúrtua, tested positive for the disease and complied with the respective isolation as part of their recovery.

It is necessary to indicate that in the case of Chávez he has already recovered from the infection and has resumed his activities. The President of the Republic, Pedro Castillo, reported last week that a molecular discard test was negative.
