(CNN) — Herman Cain, the former presidential candidate and former CEO of Godfather’s Pizza, died of coronavirus, according to an obituary sent from his verified Twitter and Newsmax account, where he was launching a television show.
Cain, 74, was hospitalized earlier this month, and his Twitter account earlier this week said he was being treated with oxygen.
As a cancer survivor, Cain, 74, was considered to be at increased risk for contracting coronavirus, according to guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 2006, Cain received a 30% chance of survival from stage 4 colon cancer that had spread to his liver. He underwent chemotherapy and surgery to remove the cancer from his liver and was declared cancer free in 2007.
