Herman Brusselmans comes from a family of livestock traders. During his youth he was constantly surrounded by cattle for slaughter, but that is not what made his childhood so difficult. It was his father who did not make young Herman’s childhood easy. “My father beat his wife and children and threw chairs through windows. When my brother was 16 years old and I was 14 years old, we thought it had to stop. Then the two of us beat him up,” Herman says candidly. “My mother was angry with us, even though we did it to stop her misery. After that, my father effectively became a lamb, because he knew that his children were stronger than him.”
During ‘The House’ Herman reveals his heart. For example, he also talks about the characteristics of his father. Because although he never wanted to inherit it, he sometimes recognizes some of his father’s qualities in him. “I can also be aggressive. Never physically, but verbally I can be a real asshole. When I get upset, I start swearing at those closest to me. The difference with my father is that I almost immediately express my regret and then everything is made right again.”
‘The House’ can be seen on Monday at 8:40 PM on VRT 1 and on VRT MAX.
