Heritage Foundation Releases List of 100 Religious Buildings in Need of Restoration Funding

The list was published last Friday by the Heritage Foundation.

This national subscription was announced last September by Emmanuel Macron. His goal? Help cities with less than 10,000 inhabitants to preserve their religious buildings, such as churches, chapels, temples and even synagogues.

The list of the first 100 religious buildings selected was announced this Friday by the Heritage Foundation. In Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, twelve sites were selected, including one in the Rhône. This is the Saint-Jean-Apôtre church in Régnié-Durette. “The church needs some restoration work after the appearance of minor cracks inside and outside the building. The west face is also heavily weathered (black stone, damaged statues, nearby cracks, etc.)“, explains the Heritage Foundation on its website. The work that began in 2023 is estimated at 307,700 euros; so far 6,840 euros have been collected as part of the collection.

The Foundation needs a total of 15 million euros to save these first 100 buildings. “To date, more than 12,000 donors have already contributed more than 2.3 million euros to the collection. But the call for donations continues to collect the 12.7 million euros needed on the Heritage Foundation website“, we can read in a press release.
