Enjoy an exceptional guided tour of the Hotel Verdelin. The Verdelin hotel is a private mansion located in old Cognac.
Probably built in the 16th century on an old house, it has been remodeled several times over the centuries. Vaulted cellars and an older wing of annexes remain from this period, as well as a rectangular stair tower that has been significantly modified inside. On the top floor of this tower there is a small barrel-vaulted toilet, entirely covered with seventeenth-century grisaille or trompe-l’oeil frescoes. And century. The most important scenes represent a couple embracing and the flight of the chariot of Apollo-Helios. The top of the other two walls is decorated with a gallery of sixteen large busts of warriors. The vault is also treated as a trompe-l’oeil in the manner of a circular dome decorated with columns, garlands of flowers supported by four cherubs and open to the sky. In the center is represented the fall of Phaeton shot down by Zeus.
