Pure ice hockey – for the fans of the Herford EV, the extremely atmospheric “great ice hockey days” begin around Christmas and New Year’s seasons. Ten game days are on the program in the next 24 days in the Oberliga Nord, with the Ice Dragons having home rights six times.
The kick-off in the ice rink “Im Kleinen Felde” is the Friday encounter between the Herford team and fourth place in the table, Crocodiles Hamburg. The crocodiles are proving to be more and more defensive artists and have only received more than three hits once in the past nine games (1: 5 against Hannover Scorpions). Most recently there was a 1-0 draw in the catch-up match against Leipzig on Tuesday, with which Hamburg initially reached the PlayOff spots and underlined their current good form. In the first leg, the weakened Ice Dragons lost 3: 9 in Hamburg and now want to return the favor, also to start the intense weeks successfully.
On Sunday, East Westphalia will perform at the current table leader Saale Bulls Halle at 6.15 p.m. Against this team, Herford suffered a heavy 8-2 defeat in October. But like against Hamburg, the team of head coach Michael Bielefeld did not appear in the best line-up and would now like to solve the task much better. Halle, on the other hand, wants to expand its own streak of success. The Saale Bulls only lost once in the past 15 games (4: 6 against Hannover Indians) and are currently a little ahead of the competition. Last Sunday, the penultimate Krefeld, who demanded everything from the top team of the Oberliga Nord at 1: 3, proved that the leader of the table is not invulnerable.
Both against Hamburg and in Halle everything will be demanded of the Herford Ice Dragons again. In terms of fighting, the team around captain Björn Bombis was convincing in the last 6-2 victory over the Rostock Piranhas. In a playful way, you will have to try to gain a few percent in order to stand up to your favorite opponents. Björn Bombis, who was hit in the face by a slap shot against Rostock from close range, should be available for the HEV again.
