However, so far most affordable smartphones have LCD screens, while more expensive devices have OLED screens (with a few exceptions).
But the good news is that little by little, OLED technology could land on affordable smartphones. In any case, this is what an article from the Korean site The Elec suggests in an article published this week.
Declining demand due to COVID-19 and sanctions against Huawei
According to this article, UBI Research recently predicted a drop in the prices of OLED-type displays due to two factors: the US sanctions against Huawei and the COVID-19 pandemic. Because of these two factors, the supply would today be very high compared to the demand, which will lead to a fall in prices.
However, if the prices of this type of screen fall, this could encourage manufacturers of affordable smartphones to use it instead of LCDs. This would then lead to an improvement in the offer in the mid-range segment. Moreover, it is normal that features formerly reserved for premium devices are gradually arriving on affordable smartphones.
The OLED screen among the improvements for affordable smartphones in 2021?
OLED screens are often considered to be more efficient than LCD type ones. And with the arrival of dark themes on apps as well as operating systems, you have another good reason to choose a smartphone with an OLED display. Indeed, the use of these themes which favor dark backgrounds instead of light backgrounds are real pluses for autonomy on devices with OLED screen.
