Here’s why the clash with West Ham is the perfect time for Son to shine again for Tottenham

Eleven years ago Tottenham lost an epic battle with arch-enemy West Ham and Spurs fans couldn’t have been more delighted.

It was in January 2012 that the north London club discovered that they had missed out on their bid for the Olympic Stadium. Which left the coast clear for the East Ham team to make the short journey to Stratford.

Son has suffered an alarming drop in form this season

So Tottenham kept it local and built its magnificent new home. What they could really call home when the first team’s opening goal was scored in April 2019 against Crystal Palace. By the South Korean star and favorite son of his, Heung-Min Son.

Of course, this wasn’t the first time Son had lit up the Spurs faithful. And it was by no means the last. In his more than 350 appearances for the club, he has won multiple Puskas Goal of the Season awards (his marathon run and his finish against Burnley), has been selected in the PFA Team of the Year and was a Golden set. Boot winner with Mo Salah.

This season, however, he hasn’t followed the seemingly never-ending tradition of being the Spurs’ Sonny’s delight. So far, it’s been a campaign that comprises a timid start, injury, a World Cup break and a recent run.

In fact, that much has diminished his game, mused talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara after Tuesday’s 1-0 loss to AC Milan “what happened to the world-class player?”

A question that could easily be raised alongside Antonio Conte. Who, aside from a couple of good wins, have also had a rough couple of months.

Son scored the first goal in the opening match at the new stadium

However, at home on Sunday afternoon, both team and player have a chance to start to straighten things out against their old Eastern rivals. West Ham, however, are in good recent form.

While his record at Tottenham since Claret and Blues got the green light for the Olympic Stadium has been decent.

So this would clearly be the perfect time for Spurs’ Son to shine once again.
