Here’s Why Inspector General Teddy Minahasa’s Call for the Death Penalty Is Justified

Jakarta

Former West Sumatra Regional Police Chief Inspector General Teddy Minahasa was demanded the death penalty in connection with the case drugs by the prosecutor in the trial at the West Jakarta District Court. Claims against Inspector General Teddy Minahasa also considered correct.

This was conveyed by a criminal expert at Jenderal Soediman University, Hibnu Nugroho. He considered that there were several things that were indeed burdensome for Inspector General Teddy Minahasa, one of which was the position in question.

“I consider the demand for the death penalty from the Public Prosecutor (JPU) to be appropriate, he is another high-ranking officer,” said Hibnu in his statement, Thursday (30/3/2023).

In addition, Hibnu assessed that Teddy Minahasa also did not admit what he had done. According to him this reason can be burdensome for the defendant.

“He did not expedite the course of the examination,” he said.

Furthermore, Teddy is also considered not to support the eradication of narcotics in Indonesia. Then, according to him, Teddy has damaged the police’s image.

“Teddy cannot set an example for other police officers, from a legal perspective, hopefully the death penalty will create a deterrent effect for other potential perpetrators, so they don’t mess around with drugs. Especially if they are law enforcement officers,” said Hibnu.

Inspector General Teddy Minahasa Demands Death Penalty

Inspector General Teddy Minahasa undergo a lawsuit. Prosecutors believe Teddy is guilty in the case of exchanging methamphetamine as evidence in the narcotics case with alum.

“Declaring that the Defendant Teddy Minahasa Putra bin Haji Abu Bakar has been legally and convincingly proven guilty of committing a crime,” said the prosecutor while reading out the charges at the West Jakarta District Court, Thursday (30/3).

“Determined the defendant Teddy Minahasa Putra with the death penalty,” continued the prosecutor.

The prosecutor believes there is no justification or forgiveness for Teddy’s actions. The prosecutor believes Teddy is guilty of violating Article 114 paragraph 2 of Law No. 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 1 of the Criminal Code.

Prosecutors believe that Teddy was the originator of the embezzlement of methamphetamine evidence to be sold. Prosecutors also believe Teddy was the person who invited the former Bukittinggi police chief AKBP Dody Prawiranegara to cooperate in exchanging methamphetamine and selling it through Linda Pujiastuti.

The prosecutor believed that Dody had received Rp. 300 million from Linda from selling 1 kg of methamphetamine. The prosecutor believes that the Rp. 300 million in foreign currency was received by Teddy.

The thing that incriminated Teddy was that he had been enjoying the profits from the sale of methamphetamine-type narcotics, taking advantage of his position as West Sumatra Police Chief in the illicit drug trade to get convoluted in court. Meanwhile, nothing could lighten Teddy’s demands.
