Rio Ferdinand reveal competitive attitude Cristiano Ronaldo, his former colleague at Manchester United. CR7 will react if there is support Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo and Messi are the two best players at the moment. Both Ronaldo and Messi are covered in goals, records, and of course trophies for their clubs.
Ronaldo himself now has five Ballon d’Or, still lost by one to Messi. But at the national team level, Ronaldo can be proud to be better than the Barcelona striker.
Ronaldo, who is now at Juventus, has led Portugal to a trophy, with a champion Euro 2016 and UEFA Nations League. The 36-year-old has also just set a new record by reaching 109 goals for the Portugal national team, the record for the most players at international level in history.
Meanwhile, Messi has not given Argentina any trophies in prestigious competitions, apart from bringing Albiceleste 2008 Olympic champion.
Competition with Messi apparently did make Ronaldo motivated to become better. This was revealed by Ferdinand, Ronaldo’s former colleague at Manchester United.
Ferdinand admitted, Ronaldo had his own reaction if there was someone who favored Messi. He cited the case of Gary Lineker.
Lineker has said several times that Messi is better. It made Ronaldo wonder.
“He (Ronaldo) is a human who is obsessed with being the best. He is a phenomenal player, but also someone who thinks about everything in the game to continue to maximize himself,” said Ferdinand, quoted by the BBC.
“This is a great example, and he uses negativity as fuel. You (Lineker) say that Messi is better. Well, he [Ronaldo] would definitely text me saying, “Why did he say that?”
“That is his competitive nature and you need that to be the best,” Ferdinand explained.
