Manchester United visits the Etihad Stadium, Sunday (6/3/2022) night WIB in continuation Premier League. If you compare the performance this season, the hosts deserve to be slightly more favored, especially with the factor of playing at home.
However, if you look at the meeting notes, Manchester United actually still always competitive in the last few seasons. In the last five meetings of all competitions, for example, both teams have won two wins with the remaining one ending in a draw.
United interim manager Ralf Rangnick believes the opportunity to steal points opens up for his team. Especially looking at Man City’s recent record, where they were detained by Southampton and lost to Tottenham Hotspur.
He has instructed his players to control the game well even though the opponent will have more possession of the ball. Limiting the gap for Man City will be crucial and their best chance is to trap the opponent with a quick attack.
“In the end it’s about controlling the game. It’s about not letting them play and have the ball without any pressure, because this is what they want.” Ralph Rangnick quoted Metro.
“They always try to create a situation where the number of players in the area is superior halfspaceeven with the goalkeeper almost playing like a centre-back, with at least one of the full-backs playing in the number 6 midfield position.”
“Play with false nine who always comes down to midfield, it shows that we are fully aware of their idea of how to play and for us it’s about finding moments where we can put pressure on them, hoping to steal the ball.”
“It’s a matter of taking advantage of those transitional moments. There have been a number of teams in the last weeks and months that can do it and it’s up to us to show on Sunday that we can do it too.”
Although not directly involved in the title competition, MU can play its own role through this match.
If they can tackle Manchester City, Manchester United will increasingly turn on the title competition that pits their city rivals with Liverpool. Man City and Liverpool stick each other in position 1-2, within six points with ‘The Reds’ save one game.
