Xavi Hernandez has come back to reality. The coach, who has been employed since the beginning of November, will not win a title with FC Barcelona this season. During the press conference ahead of the LaLiga away game against Real Sociedad (1-0 win for the Blaugrana), Xavi was asked about the current weaknesses.
“We have to play better, compete better, have more confidence and more will,” he said, only to have to state from a sporting point of view: “The reality is that we’re not fighting for a title. We have to be more humble than ever and think about it that the goal is second place.”

Real Madrid can only theoretically be caught in LaLiga, Barça’s gap to their arch-rivals is a whopping 18 points with two games less. If the missing games have been made up, there are still five games to play.

“Perhaps there are times when we think we’ll have it easy, but that’s not the case. We lacked the will and the faith,” Xavi commented on the embarrassing 0-1 draw against relegation-threatened Cadiz in front of his own crowd. “The game was good, but when you take the lead against teams like that, the whole game changes.”
