Here the regional traffic is stopped

Because of the storm “Zeynep”, the regional north train service, including to Hamburg, is discontinued. The closure should be maintained at least until Saturday afternoon.

On the Hamburg – Bremen, Hanover – Uelzen – Hamburg and Göttingen – Hanover routes, regional traffic will be phased out from midday due to the weather. According to current assessments, train traffic on the lines will probably not resume before Saturday afternoon, the Metronom railway company announced on Friday.

A rail replacement service with buses will be set up for all lines. In the direction of Hamburg, the buses should already end in Hamburg-Harburg. There is a connection with the S-Bahn to Hamburg Central Station. Due to storm damage, buses are already running again as rail replacement services on the entire route between Uelzen and Lüneburg.

Storm surge expected in Hamburg: Long-distance traffic also stopped

Long-distance traffic in northern Germany is also gradually being phased out due to the storm. For the rest of the day, there will be no more long-distance trains north of Dortmund, Hanover and Berlin, the company announced on Friday. It had previously announced that regional traffic in Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Bremen and parts of NRW would be discontinued during the course of the day. No long-distance trains ran all day on the connections from Amsterdam to Berlin and Frankfurt.

According to the German Weather Service (DWD), the hurricane predicted for Saturday night will reach the North Sea coast around midnight. Wind speeds of up to 160 kilometers per hour are expected there. According to the DWD, hurricane gusts and sometimes extreme hurricane gusts are possible on the North Sea from the afternoon. According to the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), Hamburg could hit by a severe storm surge.
