Kabul – The Taliban have revealed the final resting place of the Taliban founder Mullah Omar, which has been kept secret for many years. Rumors about Mullah Omar’s health have been circulating since the Taliban lost power in Afghanistan to the United States in 2001. Finally, in April 2015, the Taliban confirmed that Mullah Omar died two years ago. The Taliban returned to power in August last year after 20 years.
Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the organization’s senior executives attended the ceremony on Sunday at Mullah Omar’s final resting place near Omrazo in Suri district of Zabul province. Sabihullah said the location was kept secret to avoid damage to the tomb as there were many enemies inside and outside the country.
Only close family members knew the information. Sabihullah informed that from now on people will be able to visit the place. Authorities released images of the ceremony held at the tomb the other day. Mullah Omar, founder of the Taliban in 1993, died at the age of 53.
