The only photo has emerged of the freak who killed the 77-year-old woman with his bare hands in the capital’s Mladost 1 neighborhood on Sunday night near a bus stop. 43-year-old Michal Tsenkov has no profiles on social networks and no close friends. The only photo is from his police file, which is quite voluminous.
As it turned out, Michal is a repeatedly convicted recidivist who was released from prison only a few weeks ago. He did it because he wanted to go back to prison, where he was provided with 3 meals a day.
“The victim and the assailant did not know each other. He hit her with his hands. Things were taken, but there is no evidence of robbery. There is no evidence of sexual assault. The following punishments are provided for the act – from 15 to 20 years in prison, life imprisonment or life imprisonment without parole”, said the deputy chief prosecutor of Sofia Ivo Iliev.
According to Senior Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov from the SDVR, the detainee Michal Tsenkov has stated that he will commit new murders because he wants to return to prison. He declared this to his cellmates shortly before he was released from prison on September 2.
The 43-year-old man was already convicted of a murder committed in 2005. Four years later, he was sentenced to 19 years in prison, which he served. Released on September 2. He has previous convictions for theft, robbery and rape. He’s been involved in crime all his life.
The motive has not been fully clarified, commented the deputy city prosecutor of Sofia Ivo Iliev. The man told the police that he wanted to go back to prison and that’s why he committed the serious crime. They did not know each other and had no relationship with the victim. The woman was killed by blows to the head. She was coming home from work and traveling by car, but asked to be dropped off at the bus stop because her block was close.
“Obviously, this is a case of a psychopath who attacks defenseless women, such are the data from his judicial past. This is a case that we have not observed for a long time. The latest murders in Sofia are mostly of a domestic nature and are related to domestic violence,” commented Iliev.
After the crime, Michal hid in the area of the market in “Mladost”-3, explained the head of the metropolitan police, Lubomir Nikolov. He was ambushed and captured by secret police posts located nearby. The crime was solved in about 10 hours.
