The SPVQ wanted to reassure citizens: there was no danger. It was just a simulation.
The scenario that the responders had to face (police officers, firefighters, paramedics) was for a hostage situation in a school and suspects injured people using knives and firearms.
These exercises help prepare police officers to deal with complex situations that could arise, indicated the SPVQ.
They also make it possible to improve coordination with partners, such as the Fire Protection Service, the Civil Security Office, paramedics, the Capital Transport Network, the CIUSSSCN, the city police services. of Lévis and Wendake as well as Laval University. All this, with the aim of better protecting the population, indicated the SPVQ.
FRAUD EMAIL ALERT – CALL FOR VIGILANCE
The Sûreté du Québec wishes to warn citizens of a fraud scheme which consists of sending an extortion letter via email containing the full name, telephone number, home address as well as a screenshot of the address taken from an online mapping service.
The authors of the email claim that the targeted person has visited explicit websites and threaten to send a video to their contact list unless they are paid in cryptocurrency.
A QR code is usually sent to facilitate payment in Bitcoin.
Scammers use fear and urgency to manipulate victims into making a hasty decision.
To gain access to information, fraudsters use information that is publicly available, particularly on social networks.
Here are some SQ prevention tips:
– Be careful about sharing details online and limit what you post on social media
– Don’t rush into decisions. Carefully evaluate the situation, ignore the email and do not make any payment.
– Consider reporting the scam to local authorities or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
