Here is the new range of Volvo C40 and XC40

Volvo has had great success with its first electric car here at home. The XC40 compact SUV has been one of Norway’s best-selling cars since its introduction.

Last year it was also followed by the C40, which is very much the same car, with a slightly steeper and sportier roofline.

So far, the two have not been winners over the distance. But now Volvo is acting in this area.

Over 500 kilometres

Today they are launching new model variants of the XC40 and C40, where, among other things, longer range, faster charging and rear-wheel drive are on the menu.

– You can now order XC40 and C40 with a range of over 500 kilometers. With all the good features the cars already have, we believe this will make them even more attractive to Norwegian customers, says Erik Trosby, communications manager at Volvo Car Norway.

The cars received a new, more powerful motor on the rear axle, as well as a new, more efficient inverter. The Twin model with All Wheel Drive (AWD) gets a new front engine that will also be more efficient.

Even rechargeable Volvos have started to go much further

LONGER AND FASTER: The XC40 is a big hit in Norway. In addition to increased range, it now also gets a faster reload speed.

It rises nearly ten miles

With that, Volvo moves away from front-wheel drive and now offers the XC40 and C40 with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The rear-wheel drive model variant will be available in Single Motor and Single Motor Extended Range versions, where the difference lies in the size of the new battery packs, 73 and 82 kWt (70/78 kWt net). The model variant with all-wheel drive will only be offered with the larger battery pack.

To date, the XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge have had a range of 422 and 435 kilometres, respectively. With the new battery packs, the Extended Range variant of the XC40 gets an estimated range of 515 kilometers, while the C40 gets 533 kilometres.

The C40 has a longer range than Volvo originally thought

GOES FURTHER: The C40 has slightly sportier lines than the XC40, but it also goes further than the two.

The second quarter of 2023 begins

The XC40 with all-wheel drive gets 500 kilometers, while the C40 gets 507 kilometers of range. Estimated current consumption for the Extended Range variant with rear-wheel drive is 17.1 kWh/100 km for the XC40 and 16.4 kWh/100 km for the C40.

To date, Volvo electric cars have had a maximum achievable charging power of 150 kW. On the new models, which also have the larger battery pack, Volvo increases it to 200 kW.

At the same time, they are launching two new colors in the 40 series, namely Cloud Blue and Vapor Grey. Vapor Gray is also the launch color of the new Volvo EX90. In addition, new and more aerodynamic rims are launched.

The start of production of the new models is set for the second quarter of 2023.

The EX90 is coming – it will be important for Volvo
