Here is the island’s best semla! – Lidingö News

Where can you find Lidingö’s best rolls?

Today is Fat Tuesday, the day that celebrates the delicious pastry filled with whipped cream and creamy almond paste. But where should you buy your rolls? We at the editorial office have had a jury test some of Lidingö’s rolls to see which one takes the top spot.

The editors have gone to five different patisseries on the island to see and taste the difference. What is compared in this year’s roll test are four categories; the quality of the bread, cream and almond pastethen of course how the whole on the pastry is; what does the semlan look like? what is the price on the semlan? with more. The two-person jury has been allowed to vote on a scale of 1-5, where 1 is the worst and 5 is the best.

The patisseries that have been tested during this trial are, Gateau in the center, Princess, Lidingö Bröd & Pâtisserie, Vattenverket and The captain’s cabin. However, it should be pointed out that Vivels Konditori at Ica Kvantum has had rolls for sale in the past, but it was not available when this test was done. Millesgården’s Lanthandel also did not have rolls for sale this year.

The prices of the patisserie’s rolls are relatively the same around the island, the price is between SEK 38 and 59. The semla you can find at the lowest price on the island is at Kaptensstugan for SEK 38, but it should be pointed out that they are selling mini-semla. Vattenverket has both regular rolls and “crunchy” rolls.

Lidingö Bröd & Pâtisserie’s large artificial rolls attract roll-hunting customers.

Today there are a variety of different types of bread rolls for sale, ranging from plain traditional bread rolls to vanilla or chocolate rolls. In this test, only the confectioners’ traditional rolls have been tested.

The patisseries that came out on top for their buns were:

In first place came the Pâtisserie with a whopping 19 out of 20 points. Here, the jury was incredibly satisfied with the semla.

– This is what you should be able to expect from a pastry chef, said one of the jury members to the editors.

In second place came the Water Authority with 14 points. The patisserie’s semla costs SEK 59, which makes it the most expensive in the test, but that did not affect the jury’s judgment too much. According to the jury, it was the semla’s bread that was the biggest minus, but that was outweighed by the good almond mass, which had an abundant taste of almonds.

In third place came Gateau with 12 points for his semla for SEK 58. Gateau’s semla is with Vattenverket’s at the top for the highest price and here it was the appearance of the semla and the bread that were at the top.

Below you can see a table of the points for the different categories as well as the price for the patisserie’s semla.
