Here is the hypercar of Peugeot – ᐉ News from Fakti.bg – Auto

Peugeot has introduced the 9X8 sports prototype for the new Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) class from the FIA WEC endurance races. The parameters of the car’s power plant are strictly regulated and are already known, so now the manufacturer has paid attention to the design and aerodynamics – for example, the car does not have the usual rear wing. The new Peugeot race car was created jointly by the teams of Peugeot Sport and Peugeot Design and will compete in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2022.

“Since the 9X8 is a Peugeot, the original design we followed was a big cat preparing to jump – the stand reflects the slightly tilted cockpit,” notes Peugeot designer Matthias Hosan. The family features of the brand can be seen in the design of the front and rear optics (lion’s claws), the interior (i-Cockpit) and in the choice of color scheme – the hyper car uses the same color combination as the Peugeot Sport Engineering models – selenium gray with accents of green kryptonite.

The name of the hyper car is composed of the number “9” – denotes the series reserved for Peugeot sports prototypes for long races; the letter X – symbolizes four-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain and the invariable attribute of all the latest cars of the brand – eight.

However, the authors of the car are especially proud not of the identity of other products of the brand, but of the aerodynamic design, part of which was the rejection of the wing. “The lack of it is an important step in innovation,” said Jean-Marc Fino, director of Stellantis Motorsport. “We have achieved a certain degree of aerodynamic efficiency, which eliminates this part. But don’t ask how. We intend to keep this secret as long as possible. “

The Peugeot 9X8 has front and rear diffusers that provide high-speed pressure, and three longitudinal fins designed to stabilize the car in corners. A slight rupture of the outer stern panels apparently acts as a spoiler: the air currents enveloping the body form a high-pressure area in front of it, further increasing the pressure of the rear axle towards the road.

The power path of the 9X8 is called Peugeot Hydrid4 500kW. It consists of a rear-mounted V6 2.6 biturbo engine with 680 horsepower, a 200-kilowatt (272 horsepower) generator engine and a 900-volt battery developed by Peugeot and Total’s subsidiary Saft. Peak power – the same 680 horsepower, and during the race the internal combustion engine and the electric motor can work both together and separately.
