IGN magazine today exclusively introduced the first video for the game The Lord of the Rings: Gollum. This is an approximately one-minute teaser with which the Daedelic studio attracts us to its action adventure with elements of stealth. The trailer will take us to Mordor and show us the title hero Glum.

Along with the video, IGN magazine also published an article in which it also reveals some new details. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is a bit like the Prince of Persia, but with a branching story. The text also specifies that unfortunately it is not a video in the game engine, but a pre-rendered trailer. In addition to stealth, according to the authors, we can look forward to elements of parkour. Unlike the aforementioned Prince, however, he will not fight much in the game, although Glum can quietly get rid of his enemies.

In some parts, Glum will use the capabilities of its special allies. And it can also use the environment to its advantage.

However, such an attempt will always pose a great risk to him and will not be easy at all. The developers want players to think twice before embarking on a confrontation. Fighting is simply not Glum’s strength. It’s more of a cunning. The main character does not use weapons, but can distract the enemy with a thrown object. In some parts, he will also use the capabilities of his special allies. And it can also use the environment to its advantage.

In the game, we come across well-known characters, and even though the authors can’t wait to introduce them to us, it’s not the right time yet. However, the team assures that due to the deployment, it considers well who, where and when Glum could actually meet. Therefore, their role will not be large, but in some cases it can have a major impact. In addition to stealth, we also have to make decisions, even in dialogues where the original Sméagol can speak more, or just the Glum decimated by the Ring, which he became. Choices and decisions affect the branching of the story. Animations, dialogues and some situations can affect whether the personality of Sméagol or Glum prevails.

But the developers don’t edit anything directly on the template and want their prequel to the Lord of the Rings trilogy to end exactly as it should. However, the course of the journey may differ. The authors say that they are limited by certain barriers and the player as well. It is not possible to completely change the fate of the Mediterranean. However, you will have an influence on other characters in the game and situations that the book template did not define. The game will also include a moral system, although it should not be as simple as the protagonist’s split could suggest. It’s not that Sméagol does only good things and Glum does bad ones.

The title does not offer an open world, but a series of structured levels and mushrooms. Our movement around the world is not unlimited, but some levels may offer more freedom, while others are more linear. However, they often have to offer various alternative routes to the destination. The design is supposed to be very vertical, because Glum is an excellent climber. The very shape of the world is then inspired by Tolkien’s own drawings, and although the studio originally warned that it could deviate from what Middle-earth imagines to those who know it only from movies, today developers say they do not want to stray so far from this image. They want a unique visual style, but respect the common idea of ​​what and how it looks in this world.

Glum should look less scary and have a little more hair so that players can better identify with him.

The story is supposed to start at the same time when Frodo is still in the Region as in the Fellowship of the Ring, which Gluma is not watching at that moment. He is heading to Mordor at the time and is still looking for Bilbo and “his” Ring. But Sauron’s servants catch him. Glum’s goal is to escape from captivity and regain his own darling. In time, however, Sméagol’s personality begins to resonate, which is supposed to bring another motivation, which the authors do not want to talk about yet. Although Daedelic writes his own screenplay, he worked closely with Middle-earth Enterprises to stay true to Tolkien’s work. His story is said to be relatively strict and the developers allowed themselves a little more freedom where it was needed, for example in terms of gameplay.

According to them, Tolkien does not describe Glum’s story from this time in too much detail. Therefore, they draw mainly from notes and information from other characters, such as Gandalf. But because they have to fill many empty spaces, the authors have enough space to fulfill their own vision. However, if they did not comply with the model, they would never have received permission to work on the project. As the first pictures from the game revealed some time ago, Glum himself will not get too far from his film counterpart in the end, even though the authors originally spoke differently. Still, according to them, he should look less scary and have a little more hair so that players can better identify with him.

It is quite possible that the game from the German studio Daedalic Entertainment will appear on digital Gamescom in a few days. Aims for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.
