Greek police have announced the identity of a Bulgarian woman who participated in a telephone fraud group in Greece.
The members of the group called elderly people and reported a catastrophe to their relative, asking for money. The perpetrators managed to receive a total of 120,000 euros from their victims in three separate cases.
The Bulgarian woman was arrested on July 13 in Ioannina, having just received 12,200 euros from an elderly man, deceived that his child had suffered a serious accident and was undergoing immediate surgery.
According to the information disseminated by the police, the charges were brought against Ani Hristova Peneva, born on February 3, 1967 in Bulgaria.
A case has been filed against her for participation in a criminal organization, fraud and attempted fraud. The Thessaloniki security protection department found that she had received a bag with 14,000 euros and gold jewelry earlier than another elderly woman.
The investigation revealed that the 54-year-old Bulgarian was one of three members of an organization led by another Bulgarian who called elderly people posing as doctors and tried to persuade them to immediately give money for surgery to relatives with serious risk of amputation.
