On Thursday, the WC in cross-country skiing gets underway for real when the Swedes will chase medals in the sprint.
It is already clear which skiers will get the chance in the skiathlon on Friday and Saturday. The men run 30 kilometers (15 kilometers in classic style and 15 kilometers in freestyle) on Friday and the women run 15 kilometers (7.5 kilometers in classic style and 7.5 kilometers in freestyle) on Saturday.
Seven riders
Uttagna gentlemen: Calle Halfvarsson, William Poromaa, Jens Burman and Eric Rosjö.
For Burman, it means the start of his sixth consecutive world championship.
– I have had a good recharge and it has felt good the last few days. I am hopeful of being there and fighting for medals, he says himself.
Selected ladies skaters: Frida Karlsson, Ebba Andersson and Moa Ilar.
– Ebba has had an enormously strong season. Very exciting, says coach Stefan Thomson.
Holds fourth place
The small scandal was that Thomson did not name a fourth female driver.
– Because we have the team sprint the next day, those who run the team sprint will not run the skiathlon. That is why we are waiting, says the coach.
What does the team think about it?
– They are fine with it. We have such a strong sprint team, so today’s form will make a lot of difference. Therefore, tomorrow is very interesting. Actually, all five girls can run the skiathlon, he says.
