In Sofia, the average salary is now BGN 3,130, which has increased by BGN 100 in just three months. Average wages are the lowest in the districts of Smolyan, Blagoevgrad, Silistra and Kyustendil. They are half of the average salary in the capital.
According to economist Prof. Krasen Stanchev from the Institute for Market Economy, Bulgarians collected 10 times more foreign savings in 2023.
“Sofia represents slightly less than half of the Bulgarian economy.
Five years ago, the differences between salaries in different cities were greater, they are now shrinking. The capital has about 36% imports from other parts of the country. The fact that when you work on a contract abroad for several months is also important, it is a foreign investment and not to the domestic economy,” he pointed out.
