Reporting from Express, Sunday (10/3/2021), basil leaves originating from India and commonly found in Southeast Asia, can significantly help reduce blood sugar.
A study, published in the Macedonian Journal of Medical Scientists, examined the effects of basil leaves on diabetic rats using an herbal extract. The blood sugar of rats was measured before and after extract induction, in the first week and fourth week.

The findings revealed that basil leaves had a significant lowering effect on blood sugar levels. The researchers noted that the ethanolic extract of basil leaves showed good results in lowering blood sugar and advanced glycation end products in diabetic rats.
This finding was continued in another study with rodents who were also given basil leaf extract. At the end of the 30 days of the study, the researchers saw a 26.4% reduction in blood sugar levels.
Basil leaves have been shown to target metabolic stress which can help reduce body weight day rate cholesterol. Another study showed basil leaves to improve pancreatic beta cell function and insulin secretion and increase glucose uptake by muscle cells.
Researchers note that basil leaves have hypoglycemic properties. Where this leaf is proven to lower blood sugar levels and help prevent diabetes complications so that it can be the key to treating the long-term effects of high blood sugar.
