More than 100 new emojis are on the program!
The Emojipedia site has posted a list of all the new emojis that should be added at the end of 2021 / beginning of 2022 to the various operating systems. We find several new faces, representing a character who hides his mouth, a character who hides his eyes, another who salutes or a face that melts. Many variations are proposed for the many hand signs, to represent all the ethnic groups on the planet. We find at this level the essential handshake, the heart-shaped sign or the sign “I love you” – little known or used here.
On the items side, the 2021/2022 batch should add a slide, a lifeline, a disco ball, an empty battery, a crutch, bubbles, an identity card, beans, an empty jar or even a nenuphar.
The creation of new emoticons is governed by the Unicode consortium, which creates new models every year. Each platform or ecosystem is then free to adopt them and adapt the design by following recommendations that ensure compatibility between OS and applications. Concretely, this means that if a user sends a message with a lily pad smiley via iMessage on his iPhone, the recipient will see said lily pad displayed on his SMS application on Android. Every operating system has its own emojis, but so does every messaging app, which can quickly get very complicated. Applying a standard makes it possible to avoid incompatibility concerns.
