Here and there the heating is already turned on: ‘I’ve lost my temper’

‘I will give up in September’

You probably recognize it: you’d rather not turn the heat on before October (or maybe November for the dying), but you do it anyway. It has cooled down a lot this week, so the first radiator is being heated up again. If you’ve done that, you’re not alone. But how do you do that in the most efficient and sustainable way?

Tamara admits that on X: “Somehow I refuse to turn on the heating in September,” she writes. And still she went for the axe. “When it reached 16.5 degrees in my living room, I had to admit defeat.”

‘I’ve never been before October for me’

A quick search shows: she is definitely not the only one. Nettie wrote: “Who else turned the heat on? I did!” But Christina is one of the hard lines: “For me, the heating won’t come on until October.”

Aukelien also changed tack:

No matter what you do, no matter who you are, the heat will undoubtedly come on at some point. There are a few things you should pay attention to.

Possible precipitation

The first is that there are air bubbles in the central heating system. If so, you will hear cascading or bubbling sounds in the installation.

You can do the bleeding yourself. In a few steps you’ve done it and your CV is performing at its best again. Important, and effective. Because a semi-active heating system is not very useful.

Anyone who watches his or her wallet would do well to be smart about the way the house is heated. Mileucentral have put together a number of tips on the website on how to do this as well as possible.

In short:

  • Do not heat your whole house, but only the rooms where you are
  • Do not set the thermostat higher than 19 degrees
  • Set the thermostat to 15 degrees at night
  • Also leave the thermostat at 15 degrees when no one is at home.

According to Milieucentraal, it is a myth that it is better to keep the temperature a little higher at night, because otherwise it will take more energy to heat the house again in the morning. Heating costs from 15 degrees are much lower than keeping the house a few degrees warmer all night.
