It was a flagship project of Stephen Rossignol, the mayor of La Grande Motte: to rebuild the seafront of the seaside resort over 600 meters between the Forum and Point Zéro. After three years of work, this seafront, which has become the “Jacques-Chirac promenade”, was inaugurated this Saturday morning.
The presence of Claude Chirac
An inauguration which took place in the presence in particular of Claude Chirac, the daughter of the former President of the Republic, who received on this occasion the medal of the City of La Grande Motte. A plaque in memory of Jacques Chirac was also unveiled.
The reconfigured seafront: bioclimatic pergolas line the course, a low wall now replaces the concrete cover that descended to the sand, and a two-tone floor has been laid.

The City and the Etang de l’Or agglomeration, which co-financed the work, also changed the street furniture where new stone benches are installed: “The City has made an effort on the furniture”, confirms the mayor, who quotes the design bins and the new lighting, completely redesigned: “It covers the promenade of course but we also wanted it to light up part of the beach”
The redevelopment of this seafront was carried out by the architects Caterina and Marc Aurel and the landscape designer Vincent Guillermin.
The return of two-tone soil
This morning, in inaugurating this new seafront, Stéphan Rossignol spoke of “a great success, a real architectural gesture which offers a modernized version of the vision of Jean Balladur, the architect of the city. It’s a homecoming: the two-tone floor is similar to that imagined and created at the time by Jean Balladur ”.
The renovation of the seafront in figures:
-A budget of 10 M €, matched by the City of Grande-Motte, the agglomeration of the Pays de l’Or, but also the Region (2 M €), the Department (nearly 1 M €) and the condition (nearly 700,000 €).
-The installation of pergolas, costed at 1.8 M €, was provided by the City-Agglomeration tandem.
