Hérault: in Saint-Jean-de-la-Blaquière, the Grand-Rue will now be prohibited for heavy goods vehicles

Mayor and President of the Department signed the decree on July 15.

This is the epilogue of a sensitive issue in Saint-Jean. Central axis of the village, the artery of a hundred meters which serves the center of the village and the road to Saint-Privat from Saint-Félix-de-Lodez, Rabieux and La Rouquette has finally been prohibited for heavy goods vehicles from more than 3.5 tonnes, as desired by the municipality and residents.

A narrow and dangerous axis in the heart of the village

“It’s a very good thing. We have a lot of noise, not to mention that you always have to be careful when you leave our house”, confides this retired couple who have just done their shopping in the village square and are returning home, at the bottom of the Grand-Rue.

“This is a subject that has been going on for many years now”, adds Bernard Jahnich. The mayor and his council were at the initiative of a public meeting on July 16, 2020 on the nuisance and the safety problem of pedestrians. “We have also compiled a file, photos and supporting testimony to support our request to the sub-prefect and the road service of the Department”. Vibrations in homes, noise and odor nuisance, pedestrian safety or risks in the event of a truck fire in the street were all mentioned.

Some trucks were really just passing.

Even if the GPS continues to show the route

“We also met the mayor of Bosc at the time Daniel Guibal, because deflecting heavy weights means passing them through his house”, adds the mayor. “Unfortunately there was a fatal accident last August 27 which sped things up.” Two meetings followed in the sub-prefecture of Lodève with all the actors concerned the mayors of Saint-Félix and Bosc, the departmental road agencies of Lodève and Montpellier to arrive at this ban.

The joint decree of the mayor and the president of the Department was signed on July 15, 2021. It remains now to put the signage which should be done quickly as soon as the end of the development works of the crossroads of La Rouquette, route de Rabieux, at the exit of the village. “Only heavy goods vehicles with local service and school buses will be authorized to use the Grand-Rue”, rejoices Bernard Jahnich, thanking all the people who contributed to the completion of this dossier. Even if the GPS continues to indicate the route.
