Herault. An 89-year-old motorist knocks down a pedestrian and flees in Béziers

An 89-year-old motorist knocked down a pedestrian on a zebra crossing late Monday afternoon in Béziers, Hérault reports France Bleu.

He immediately fled without assisting the victim.

A witness to the scene succeeded in raising the driver’s license plate.

The driver then drove off, squealing his car tires

“I was in the car. I then saw the gentleman being thrown into the air before falling to the ground. He was bleeding from the mouth. He had trouble moving,” described one of the witnesses. And to add: “The driver then left, squealing his car tires. »

Alerted, a municipal police team quickly identified the suspect.

The driver was arrested outside his home. He was taken into custody. During his hearing, the motorist explained that the pedestrian had voluntarily thrown himself on his car and that he had not realized the seriousness of the accident.

The victim, a 58-year-old man, was taken care of by firefighters after the accident.
