Heracles Almelo ended a series of four Eredivisie victories in a row by FC Groningen with a 0-1 win on Wednesday. Mike van Duinen helped PEC Zwolle to a 0-2 victory against his old team ADO Den Haag.
Groningen played a mediocre game at home against Heracles. The biggest chance in the first half was for Ahmed El Messaoudi, but after good return from Jorgen Strand Larsen, he shot at Heracles goalkeeper Janis Blaswich.
Another remarkable moment came from referee Allard Lindhout, who already whistled after 44 minutes and 52 seconds before half-time.
Highlights were also scarce in the second half. Adrián Szöke’s winning goal fell in the 78th minute. The Hungarian completed a pass by Ismail Azzaoui on the edge of offside with a nice marker.
Due to the defeat, Groningen is passed by AZ in the ranking. Danny Buijs’ team starts as number six in the Eredivisie in 2021. Heracles is number twelve.

Van Duinen does not cheer in The Hague
ADO Den Haag is in even deeper problems after the home defeat against PEC Zwolle. It is already the tenth game in a row in the competition without a victory for the residents of The Hague.
Van Duinen headed in the opening goal early in the second half. He didn’t want to cheer against the club where he played for years. With five minutes to play, PEC countered to 0-2. Clint Leemans was accurate with a slide of more than 20 meters.
PEC only booked its third win of the season. With sixteen points from fourteen duels, John Stegeman’s team enters the winter break as the middle engine.
At ADO, everything will be aimed at saving the body in 2021. The Hagenaars only collected seven points in the past six months and only keep FC Emmen below them in the rankings. The bottom two teams are relegated directly this season.
