Heracles Cancels Almelo Tour After Fatal Accident

The tour of Almelo that was planned for the selection of Heracles on Sunday has been cancelled. The club has decided this after Saturday’s accident with a championship car in Yerseke in Zeeland, in which a five-year-old girl died.

Heracles thinks it is “inappropriate to celebrate the championship on the flat cart”, the club says after consultation with the municipality and the transporter. The rest of the tribute program will continue.

In Yerseke things went wrong on Saturday at the ceremony of a girls team from VV Yerseke. The accident happened when the ‘flat cart’ was on its way to the party at the VV Yerseke sports complex.

The victim was the daughter of the driver. She fell off the car just before arrival. What exactly happened and how the girl could have died is still being investigated.

By scrapping the tour, Heracles now drives the players bus directly from the stadium to the city center. The support program starts at 4.30 pm on the Marktplein. The official ceremony of players and staff is at 5.30 pm.

Heracles Almelo became champion of the Kitchen Champion Division on Friday. The team of coach John Lammers won 2-0 against Jong Ajax at home. Competitor PEC Zwolle also won, 2-3 at Helmond Sport, but ended behind Heracles on the basis of a worse goal difference.
