Heracles Almelo was unable to continue its good week with wins against AZ and Sparta Rotterdam against SC Heerenveen on Sunday, April 14. Erwin van de Looi’s team conceded an early goal through Che Nunnely and failed to capitalize on the opportunities it had for the remainder of the match. Pelle van Amersfoort ended the match just before the end. As a result, the match ended 0-2. With four games to go, Heracles Almelo has eight points ahead of RKC Waalwijk, which is currently in a play-off spot.
Che Nunnely benefits from a mistake at the back at Heracles Almelo
Heracles Almelo started the first half excellently and was dominant on the ball. The forward solution was often found via Marko Vejinović, Brian de Keersmaecker and Ajdin Hrustić. That resulted in two chances early on. The first chance was for Bryan Limbombe who tried from about 20 meters. His arrow sailed narrowly wide. Jizz Hornkamp also got around to shooting. Goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart managed to parry this bet with his fists.
Despite the dominance, SC Heerenveen took a 0-1 lead. Che Nunnely appreciated a back pass from Sven Sonnenberg that was too short and outwitted Michael Brouwer through the legs. In an otherwise even first half, Heracles Almelo had two more good chances. After half an hour of play, Sem Scheperman was just a toe length short of a sharp cross from Navajo Bakdraad to get the ball on target. Just before half time, Sven Sonnenberg had the opportunity to make up for his mistake. He extended a free kick with the outside right, but his effort exploded onto the crossbar.

In the second half, Heracles Almelo pressed and managed to create chances, but did not score. After more than an hour of play, Bryan Limbombe came through nicely on the left, he laid back to Ajdin Hrustić, but he hit Pawel Bochniewicz who threw himself in front of the shot. Jizz Hornkamp was unable to convert a wonderful through ball from the same Hrustić into a goal. Substitute Mohamed Sankoh scored twice in the final phase, but did so both times from an offside position.
While Heracles Almelo failed to capitalize on the few opportunities, SC Heerenveen did. A corner in the 88th minute was headed behind goalkeeper Brouwer by striker Pelle van Amersfoort, 0-2.
