Sophia Thiel talks about her social media break
–
It was a change from 100 to 0: When fitness influencer Sophia Thiel decided to take a social media break in May 2019, she completely stopped her main occupation from one day to the next. She disappeared from the public for a total of 21 months. Since then, over a million fans have been waiting for her “return” on Instagram & Co .. Sophia has recently been back and now speaks honestly about the difficulties of social media abstinence, because the 25-year-old was quite lonely at times.

A whole year without Instagram and YouTube

In the months before her break, Sophia Thiel noticed more and more that platforms like YouTube or Instagram were not doing her good, but rather hurting her, she says in her latest video. And that’s why she deleted the very apps that she was previously working with day and night. No rummaging in the Instagram feed in the morning, no sifting through the YouTube trends in the evening. What was previously part of her job was completely gone. And it was good for her at first, as the 25-year-old looks back in her latest YouTube video. “The temptation wasn’t great. It was that easy for me.”

Sophia realized that she was no longer positively inspired on Instagram & Co., but was only busy comparing herself. “I always felt bad after that,” she says today. The pressure to always be up to date, stylishly and at the same time also creative, put her on. And since she no longer switched from one app to the next, she suddenly had tons of time that she couldn’t handle: “If that goes away, you think: Oh God, how long is the day? I didn’t know then what I should do with myself and with all the time I couldn’t deal with. The next thing that came up with me is loneliness. […] Then I was completely alone “Without Instagram and YouTube, she sometimes even had the feeling that she was not part of society.

Then Sophia tried to use the new time for herself. Who does she want to be? What does she want to achieve? “That was really very, very valuable to me,” she explains to her fans now. She was able to free herself from all the pressure and found herself again.

And that’s exactly what she wants her followers to follow. Nobody should feel compelled to follow every trend or be pressured by other influencers. Conscious social media times and accounts that are good for you are important steps in the right direction, says Sophia.
