Her children receive a free flu vaccine in Denmark. In Norway, we barely have access to the vaccine.

The triplets (fv) Filip (3), Iben (3) and Agnes (3) look together with big brother Mikael (5) at the prizes they received at the doctor’s office after taking the flu vaccine. It is recommended for all children between 2-6 years in Denmark.

Norwegian Maria Nordø Jørstad (39) has four healthy children who have received the flu vaccine in Denmark. They get a nasal spray that the Danes believe can protect the risk groups and prevent congested hospitals.

Maria Nordø Jørstad lives with her husband and four children in Copenhagen. On Tuesday, the children went to the GP to take the flu vaccine that is recommended for all children between 2 and 6 years in Denmark.

First out was Mikael, five years old. One spray in each nostril, then he would “sniff like a mouse” before he was done.

– When he came out laughing, it was no problem to get the three-year-olds to take it, Jørstad says.

She thinks it was easier and faster than taking a syringe, something the children do not like.

– If we can help prevent infection by giving the children a vaccine, then we think it is a good contribution to society, says the mother of four.

The offer has existed in Denmark for just over a month. After an information meeting in the kindergarten, Jørstad called the doctor to book an appointment.

That is not the case in Norway.

Mother of four Maria Nordø Jørstad is Norwegian, but lives in Denmark. She thinks it is a good measure to offer influenza vaccine to all children to reduce the infection pressure in the population.
