Henrik Lundqvist’s Induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame and Career Highlights

Lundqvist is part of the Hall of Fame class of 2023 along with fellow goaltenders Tom Barrasso and Mike Vernon, forwards Pierre Turgeon and Caroline Oullette, coach Ken Hitchcock, and general manager Pierre Lacroix.

– I think that the more time I spend here during the week, it will sink in exactly how special this is, says Lundqvist. It’s almost a little difficult to grasp the whole picture here. I came here yesterday and now you are starting to enjoy this week together with family and friends and it feels incredibly fun to be here today.

Lundqvist became the first Swedish goaltender to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame, and the eighth Swede of all time after Daniel Alfredsson, Peter Forsberg, Nicklas Lidström, Börje Salming, Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin, and Mats Sundin.

– First of all, you think of everyone who helped you along the way. The family, parents, my brother and my sister, says Lundqvist about how the thoughts went after he received the news. Since all the coaches and teammates you’ve had. There are so many. This opportunity is good because it gives a time to reflect on one’s career and the things that one has experienced along the way.

– It makes you happy to think about all the fun moments you had as a hockey player, not only on the ice but also outside and what the sport gave you and that you reached a level where you could live out your dream of playing in the NHL. I am extremely grateful.

Lundqvist succeeded in something few athletes can do; namely, becoming a star in New York City. The Swedish goalkeeper spent 15 years at Rangers and set a whole host of club records. In total, there were 887 regular season matches and 130 playoff matches in the Rangers shirt. In 2012, he won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goaltender, and in total he was a finalist for the award on five occasions. In 2014, he played in the Stanley Cup Final with the Rangers where the team lost to the Los Angeles Kings.
