Whether 70-year-old Henk Krol will miss the House of Representatives? Yes and no, is the answer from his home in Eindhoven. “I wasn’t in politics for myself anyway. So personally I’m not going to miss it.”
Krol continues: “But I also think it’s a shame. That the arguments within 50PLUS also radiated at me.”

Figurehead
Krol was the figurehead of that party for years. He got out of 50PLUS after an argument. He founded a new party together with Femke Merel van Kooten. But that also ended in a fight. Eventually he founded a new party: the Henk Krol List.
Krol followed the election night at home from the couch last night. With the dog on your lap. “I was very relaxed.” It became zero seats. “I received the results. But yes, the voter decides. We did what we could.”

Loss
Krol does have an explanation for his loss: “The arguments within 50PLUS also reflected on me.” Krol does not want to know about quitting. Together with Pieter Bogaardt, the party chairman, he continues with his party. And he is going to realize a childhood dream: “I am going to start a bed and breakfast. I don’t know where yet. That will become a big, new hobby of mine. I can easily combine that with my party. I am full of energy.”
What is he most proud of? Opening up civil marriage to people of the same sex. What will he miss in political life? “The conversations I had. With the people on the train on the way from Eindhoven and The Hague.”
