Henk Krol dismisses the hassle about declarations as a fable

Alarm bells went off at the party secretary when a ‘declaration of nothing’ came to light: 126.99 euros, including a private ride of 46.77 euros. Krol had submitted that amount as a donation to 50Plus, writes NRC.

Krol was asked for clarification. He said it had been declared that way for years. According to the party secretary, submitting a declaration as a gift is allowed at an institution with a so-called ANBI status (because it serves the public benefit). But then the money should benefit the party and not the declarant, which was the case here via a detour. Krol would have opted for this construction in order to have a deduction and to get money back through income tax.

According to the newspaper, Krol replied by email that he had been claiming this for years. According to him, with the consent of the party board in 2013. “My expenses are not paid, but are administered in connection with the taxes. So it does not cost the party a cent.”

Moreover, according to Krol, it was not always about private costs. On Twitter he writes that he often takes “rock-solid Dutch stroopwafels” with him “in a special can of the House of Representatives” as a reminder of working visits.
