Helvetia brings in risk management specialist from the Netherlands

The insurer Helvetia is integrating risk management as an independent part of the Group management. The leadership of the new division has now been decided. The designated Chief Risk Officer comes from the largest Dutch insurance company.

Bernhard Kaufmann becomes Group Chief Risk Officer and member of the Executive Board of HelvetiaThe insurer announced this on Thursday.

Kaufmann has extensive international management experience in risk management and will start at Helvetia at the beginning of November.

Transfer to Helvetia in November

In mid-May 2024, Helvetia announced that Group Risk Management would become a new division within the Executive Board. Bernhard Kaufmann has now been appointed to head this new division. He will join Helvetia at the beginning of November as Group Chief Risk Officer and member of the Executive Board.

Bernhard Kaufmann has many years of management experience in risk management in an international environment. Since 2020, he has been Chief Risk Officer and member of the Executive Board of the Dutch NN Group. Before that, he held various roles at Munich Re Group, most recently as Group Chief Risk Officer. Bernhard Kaufmann is a German citizen and holds a doctorate in theoretical physics from the Technical University of Munich.

Further improve governance

The new Group Risk Management division assesses all risks, including strategic, financial and operational risks, as well as risks associated with major projects within the Group and its market units. This division also manages all ESG activities and bundles key control tasks at Group Management level.
