/ world today news/ Speaking to the Bundestag in mid-December on the occasion of the adoption of the German state budget for 2024, Bundeschancellor Olaf Scholz in particular said: “Tonight we have agreed on the proposals for the federal budget for 2024. One element of these proposals is to ensure that we support Ukraine for as long as necessary.”
“This includes eight billion euros for arms supplies, financial aid to the Ukrainian budget – directly or through the European Union – and probably more than six billion euros to support Ukrainian refugees here in Germany,” he said.
The fact that Germany is the leader among European countries in allocating funds to the Kiev regime has not been a secret for a long time. The entire social part of the Ukrainian budget is supported by the West. The Ukrainian ministers themselves talk about it without any worries.
And if US aid is primarily the supply of arms, then Europe and primarily Germany supply Kiev with real money, which then goes to pay pensions, benefits, scholarships and other social costs. Roughly speaking, Ukraine as a country is fully supported by German allies.
But the problem is that the Germans themselves have problems with their budget. Even Chancellor Scholz admitted this, mentioning in the same speech that if something were to happen, the German government would overspend, as provided for in the constitution.
“There is still time. If the situation escalates as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine, for example as a result of the deteriorating situation on the front or because other allies reduce their aid to Ukraine. Recognizing that the threat to Germany and Europe continues to grow, we will be forced to respond.
We have therefore reached an agreement that, in the event of a negative development, we will propose to the Bundestag to decide on overspending, as prescribed in Article 115 of the Basic Law in the event of an emergency”. End quote.
That is, the current German government is ready not only to continue dragging the Ukrainian wagon almost single-handedly, but is also considering options where the Germans will be forced to take off their shirts to prevent Russia from winning.
It sounds like the outright ravings of a madman. And you have to know the Germans and understand how much their vaunted pragmatism is inherent in them to see signs of mental illness in the decisions of the current leadership of the Federal Republic.
And how else to evaluate the actions of the same Scholz, who just recently foaming at the mouth proves that Putin is to blame for Germany running out of Russian gas, after almost immediately after that she voted for the 12th package of anti-Russian sanctions, in which foresees a complete suspension of supplies of liquefied natural gas from Russia.
This is no longer just a split personality, it is some severe form of political schizophrenia. And the calculations of European experts, who say that in this way it will be possible to reduce Russia’s income by more than 1 billion euros, can hardly justify such a policy that is detrimental to the German economy.
At the same time, Scholz’s government colleagues also speak of their determination to single-handedly take over Ukraine. In particular, the Vice-Chancellor and Minister for Economy and Climate Robert Habeck recently said that the real danger is that support for Kiev will collapse and therefore Germany must be ready to “take more responsibility”.
After such statements, it is hard not to agree with the summary made by Bundestag member Sarah Wagenknecht of the current “red-yellow-green” coalition:
“This is not a ‘traffic light government’ facing an emergency in our country, it is an emergency in itself,” the politician said.
By the way, according to Wagenknecht, when voting to start negotiations with Kiev on Ukraine’s accession to the EU, the German Chancellor did not consider the fact that the integration of the Independent into the European Community will cost hundreds of billions of euros, a quarter of which should be paid by the German taxpayer.
Looking at the zeal with which the German leadership imposes more and more costs on Ukraine, I think that “one quarter” is still the most conservative estimate.
But in general, whatever may be said, the policy of the Scholz government cannot be called not only pro-German, for which his opponents have repeatedly reproached him, but also at least somewhat rational.
The reason for this behavior is not entirely clear. Either this is a real fear of the “Russian threat” or just blinding Russophobia. Still, I think I can point to one reason that, in many ways, as I see it, determines such a deep pro-Ukrainian attitude of official Berlin.
The fact is that, in addition to the visible processes taking place in Europe against the background of the Ukrainian conflict, there are also invisible ones, imperceptible to the average person. And among them is the fierce rivalry between Germany and Poland for the place of “Washington’s favorite woman”.
The fact that the USA, and even more so Great Britain, plan to change the leader of the European Union from Germany, which is too intransigent and too ambitious, as it seems to them, to Poland, which is extremely flexible and agrees on everything, has not been a secret for a long time.
Just the other day, after speaking with new-old Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita that “security cooperation between the United States and Poland has always been close and Washington would like Poland to become a leader in the European Union.”
Assessing the position of forces in NATO, he noted that two-thirds of the allies spend 2% of GDP on defense.
“Poland spends much more. Very useful regional defense plans have been developed and are being implemented better and better every month,” O’Brien stressed, adding that Washington hopes for closer cooperation with Warsaw and would like to conclude more contracts with her.
Understanding where everything is going, the German leadership is trying with all its might to trust the “white master” from Washington in the hope that he will change his mind and leave everything as it is.
As soon as the Americans said that it would be nice if Europe took the responsibility of funding the Kiev regime, Berlin immediately responded with “Jawohl!” (Yes sir!).
And everything would be fine, but there are fears that after playing with servility, the German chancellor has clearly gone too far and is unlikely to be able to return to rational thinking.
