We are organizing a fundraiser to help Antônio Expedito da Silva, better known as Fiico in the town where he lives, aged 67, diagnosed with Amyotrophic Western Sclerosis (ALS) . ALS is a serious neurodegenerative disease that affects motor neurons, responsible for voluntary movements of the body. Over time, this leads to progressive muscle weakness, difficulty speaking, swallowing and even breathing. Although there is no cure, treatment is aimed at relieving symptoms and improving quality of life.
To ensure adequate care, Antônio needs regular check-ups with a multidisciplinary team, which includes a speech therapist, a respiratory physiotherapist, a pulmonologist and a neurologist. In addition, special nurses, frequent tests, medicines and hygiene products are needed for daily care.
