Charles Leclerc’s contract with Ferrari runs until the end of 2024, and there are already rumors in the paddock that the Monegasque, frustrated by the team’s inability to build a championship car, is considering leaving. Red Bull motorsport consultant Helmut Marko believes that if Leclerc really wanted to leave Ferrari, he would have done it a long time ago.
Helmut Marko: “There are clauses in the contracts that stipulate the results. Roughly speaking, the agreement states that the rider must earn a certain number of points by some date, usually by the summer break, and then the contract will be automatically extended.
If this does not happen, then both parties have the opportunity to terminate the contract. It is for this reason that Sebastian Vettel was able to move to Ferrari so easily in 2015.”
Marko also commented on the rumors about the possible departure of Carlos Sainz to Audi, which the racer himself has already denied: “Now anyone can publish anything on the network, and such messages cannot be verified. But why should Ferrari stop working with Carlos? It just doesn’t make sense. He’s doing a good job and Ferrari has other issues to deal with instead of thinking about Sainz.”
